Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881) is one of Russia's most famous writers, and his novel Crime and Punishment, in which a jaded young intellectual kills an elderly, hated pawnbroker, is one of his most gripping works. This book conveys a distinctly St Petersburg atmosphere, but not one of imperial palaces, classical architectural ensembles and promenades along the aristocratic Nevsky Prospect. Rather, Dostoevsky concentrated on 'Poor People' and 'Insulted and Humiliated' (the title of his two early works) and on the crowded streets, dirty alleys, cheap inns and dilapidated rooms that populated these outcasts. Our guide will show you places associated with the writer and the characters in his novels. You will walk down Stolyarny Lane and Raskolnikov's house, cross the Kokushkin Bridge, reach Sennaya Square and visit Dostoevsky's memorial flat. The writer lived here for 4 years with his wife and children. Price includes: private guide speaking English, German, French, Italian, Czech or Spanish + admission tickets
